Your child may complain of difficulty seeing<br \/>\nthe blackboard in class or seeing the television. Treatment includes glasses for distance wear.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Hyperopia (Far-sightedness)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Far away objects are seen clearly while objects at near may be blurry. Your child may complain of blurred vision<br \/>\nwhile doing homework or near tasks.\u00a0 Vision may also be affected at distance. Treatment includes glasses for<br \/>\nfull-time wear or for near tasks. <strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Accommodative Disorder<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Accommodative disorder is caused by a problem with a child\u2019s ability to focus on objects at near.<\/p>\n<p>Your child may complain of eye strain, headaches at school, and difficulty with reading.<\/p>\n<p>Primary treatment may include use of glasses. If glasses do not relieve the symptoms, vision<br \/>\ntherapy may be needed in order to retrain the focusing system.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Amblyopia<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Amblyopia is defined as poor vision in one or both eyes due to improper visual development during childhood.<br \/>\nImproper visual development may have been caused by a high prescription that was never corrected or an eye turn.<\/p>\n<p>Your child may complain of reduced vision in one or both eyes, poor depth perception, squinting or an eye turn.<\/p>\n<p>Primary treatment depends on the cause of the amblyopia.\u00a0 Common treatments include full-time wearing of<br \/>\nglasses to optimize vision, vision therapy to minimize or correct an eye turn if present and patching therapy to<br \/>\nmaximize visual function of an eye.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Convergence Insufficiency<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Convergence Insufficiency is caused by an inability of the eye muscles to work together and turn inward, specifically<br \/>\nduring reading.<\/p>\n<p>Your child may complain of double vision, eye strain, headaches and difficulty with reading.<\/p>\n<p>Primary treatment of convergence insufficiency is vision therapy to \u201ctrain\u201d the eye muscles.\u00a0 Occasionally use of<br \/>\nspecial prism lenses may help to relieve symptoms.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Strabismus<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Strabismus is defined as an inability of the eyes to work together at the same time. This can result in an \u201ceye turn\u201d<br \/>\n(one or both eyes may turn in, out, up or down).<\/p>\n<p>Your child may complain of (or you may notice) a \u201cwandering eye\u201d, double vision, difficulty reading, headaches.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment of strabismus can include vision therapy to maintain eye alignment, special prism lenses and glasses.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Allergic Conjunctivitis<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Allergic conjunctivitis is caused by an allergic response (eg pollen, seasonal ragweed, animal fur etc)<br \/>\nthat causes the conjunctiva (the lining of the eye) to become inflamed and irritated.<\/p>\n<p>Your child may complain of eyes being itchy, watery, red, dry or light sensitivity.<\/p>\n<p>Treatment may include use of an eye drop (prescription or non-prescription) and<br \/>\ncool compresses to relieve symptoms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Myopia\u00a0 (Near-sightedness) Near objects are seen clearly while objects in the distance are blurry.
